Refurbishment works have started at the site of the former Central Bank HQ on Dame Street. John Paul Construction has been appointed as the main building contractor to undertake the necessary makeover.
The iconic tower building formerly occupied by the Central Bank is a Sam Stephenson-designed building which was completed in 1979. The building was structurally unique for its time, with the floors suspended from two service cores and propped up by steel supports which are visible from the outside
The sensitive refurbishment programme for this historic building will replace the 40-year-old glazing which is no longer fit for modern day office use. The granite stone cladding on the building will be carefully restored, as will the external steel supports, giving the tower’s façade a new lease of life.
Paraic Keogh, Director at John Paul Construction said: “John Paul Construction is delighted to be appointed as the main contractor to this important refurbishment project.
“For health and safety reasons, fencing has been erected around the building to protect the public as scaffolding is constructed and works commence. Public access from Dame Street to Cope Street will be maintained during the works. Upon completion, the plaza will re-open to the public.”
John Paul Construction has recently completed the sensitive restoration of the former Bank of Ireland Headquarters on Baggot Street, now known as Miesian Plaza.
Hines, the international real estate firm, and Peterson Group, the Hong Kong based real estate investment company, acquired the former Central Bank buildings on Dame Street in January 2017.
