TG4 shines the spotlight on construction workers across the country

CNI Editor reports

Over 160,000 people are employed in the construction industry in Ireland. These people build, renovate, and reimagine our countryside and our towns.

Welcome to ‘Na Builders’ an original, home-grown series for TG4 that shines the spotlight on construction workers from across the country as they battle the elements – and occasionally each other – to get the job done.

TG4 will be spending time with builders of all shapes and sizes, in rural and urbans settings, looking at what they are building and who they are building for and getting a real sense of where we are in building Ireland these days

From bricklayers to electricians, plumbers to roofers, plasterers to carpenters these hard- working men and women are part of our everyday lives in Ireland. These are their stories.

In this first episode of Na Builders, TG4 head to Carna in Conamara where Páraic Ó Cualáin of Jackie Folan Limited and his team are getting ready for the day ahead. In Donaghmede, Townmore have a large apartment development underway while down in the sunny Southeast, in Ring, Co. Waterford local builder Tom Breathnach is busy working on a two-story self-build. Meanwhile in Laois, Dave Fingleton has taken on a unique project in the Slieve Bloom Mountains building an extension onto a preexisting cottage while in Monaghan we meet BuildWright who have been supplying concrete products for 70 years across Ireland and the UK.  In Ballyvourney, Freddie Ó Loingsigh is putting the finishing touches to the local school hall. Coolsivna Construction Ltd are busy developing a new housing estate for Westmeath County Council and in Portmarnock, Phil Loughran, who started his career as a carpenter, is today building luxury homes and he shows us his latest project.
